There have been two previous Hot Wheels depictions of the Renault 5: the Renault Le Car casting from 1983 and the Renault 5 Turbo from 1991. This is a depiction of the wide-bodied, rear mid-engine Turbo 2 Model. The "Renault 5 Turbo" widebody was intended for rallying, to compete with rally cars such as the Lancia Stratos and Audi Quattro, among others.
