The Jaguar XJ Coupe, also known as the XJ-C (alternatively XJC), is a two-door coupe version of the Jaguar XJ series of executive cars produced from 1975 to 1978. Designed by William Heynes, the XJ-C was first shown off at the 1973 London Motor Show; the car had a fraught development and did not enter production until some two years later. It was available with both a 4.2L XK inline-6 or a 5.3L Jaguar V12; when production ended in 1978, 1,855 of the V12-powered model were produced, making the XJ-C V12 one of the rarest Jaguar models. The XJ-C also went racing; four chassis were prepared for the European Touring Car Championship by Broadspeed Engineering and homologated for Group 2 competition from 1976 to 1977. Deemed overweight and unreliable, the car's best result was second at the Nürburgring in 1977; the car's lack of performance led to Jaguar canceling the program.
