1970 Porsche 917

The Porsche 917K is a sports prototype racing car manufactured by Porsche for use in endurance racing. Designed by Helmuth Bott, the 917K was a short-tailed version of the 917 family, competing from 1970 to 1971 with some revisions in the design. The 1970 917K was powered by a 4.5L Typ 912 flat-12 producing 580 horsepower, mated to a 5-speed manual. A highly successful race car, the 917 won numerous major endurance races and was one of the first in a line of highly successful Porsche sports prototype race cars which would continue to dominate endurance racing in the following decades.
